BHUBANESWAR, Aug 18: Residents in parts of western Odisha have been advised to stay alert as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weather warning for nine districts, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning and rain over the next few hours.
The warning covers Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Nuapada, Balangir, Subarnapur, Deogarh and Angul.
According to the latest IMD nowcast, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at a few places across these districts.
The weather warning comes as monsoon activity remains active over Odisha. Some areas could experience stronger spells of rain, along with gusty winds during thunderstorms.
Residents have been advised to keep track of official weather updates and take precautions as conditions change. During thunderstorms, people are encouraged to stay indoors and avoid open areas, isolated trees and water bodies.
Farmers, commuters and people working outdoors have also been advised to plan activities according to local weather conditions.
The IMD is continuing to monitor the situation, with rainfall and thunderstorm activity expected to remain a feature of the weather over parts of Odisha.
