St. Louis, Aug 8: Indian Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa produced a composed and consistent performance to win the Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz title, adding another prestigious trophy to an already impressive 2026 season.
The 20-year-old sealed the championship with a round to spare after drawing against Uzbekistan’s Javokhir Sindarov in the penultimate round. He finished the tournament with 23.5 points, 1.5 points clear of Sindarov.
Praggnanandhaa’s strength across both formats proved crucial. After taking a narrow lead in the rapid section, he maintained his advantage through the demanding blitz games, holding off a field packed with some of the world’s strongest players.
Sindarov finished runner-up with 22 points, while American Grandmaster Wesley So secured third place with 20 points.
The victory also gives Praggnanandhaa a major boost in the Grand Chess Tour standings, where he has moved into second place with the season entering its decisive phase.
For the young Indian star, the Saint Louis title is another sign of his growing maturity at the highest level. His ability to remain calm under pressure and consistently score against elite opposition has become a defining feature of his recent performances.
Praggnanandhaa will now look to carry that momentum into the Sinquefield Cup, the next major classical event in Saint Louis.
