Mumbai, Aug 11: Commonwealth Games 2026 medallists Sharmila Dhankar, Lovlina Borgohain and Jhandu Kumar are set to bring their sporting journeys to the television screen with a special appearance on the popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC).
The three athletes are expected to take the iconic hot seat opposite veteran actor and KBC host Amitabh Bachchan. The special episode is likely to be telecast after August 15.
The appearance will give viewers an opportunity to hear the personal stories behind the athletes’ achievements at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, where each secured a medal for India.
Sharmila Dhankar, one of India’s standout performers at the Games, won gold in the women’s F57 shot put event. Her journey has drawn particular attention for the resilience she showed in overcoming domestic violence before reaching the Commonwealth Games podium.
Boxer Lovlina Borgohain secured a silver medal in the women’s 75kg category. Although she lost the final to Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree, her performance added another medal to India’s boxing campaign.
Para-powerlifter Jhandu Kumar won bronze in the men’s heavyweight event, producing a best lift of 190 kg to secure India’s first medal in the discipline at the Games.
India finished the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in fourth place with 39 medals — 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze. Boxing emerged as one of the country’s strongest disciplines, contributing 10 medals, including seven golds.
The athletes’ appearance on KBC comes at a time when the latest season of the show has begun, with the new season premiering on August 10. Their participation is expected to bring a sporting dimension to the programme while highlighting stories of determination, perseverance and achievement.
For the three medallists, the KBC appearance marks a different kind of spotlight after weeks of competing on the international stage. Their journeys from training arenas to the Commonwealth podium and now to one of India’s most recognisable television programmes reflect the growing public interest in the country’s sporting achievements.

The 2026 Games also carried significance for India as Ahmedabad is set to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, following the formal handover of the Games baton.
