On Indian television, it’s not uncommon to see actors’ looks reminiscent of Bollywood films. One such instance occurred with Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya actress Brinda Dahal, whose recent look in the show reminded viewers of Rani Mukherjee’s disguise as a Sardarji in Dil Bole Hadippa!. In the current track, Brinda’s character, Vaishnavi, disguises herself as a Sardarji to stop Kartik’s wedding with Tina. The talented young actress recently opened up about her thoughts on the look and her reaction when she first saw it.
Recalling her initial thoughts, Brinda Dahal shared, “When I was told about my Sardarji disguise for one of the sequences in Sun Neo’s Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya, I immediately thought of Rani Mukherjee’s look in Dil Bole Hadippa! From the colour of the kurta to the turban, the moustache, and the beard, my look was so similar to hers in the movie. I’ve watched the film and loved her quirky character. I’ve always admired her acting, and it was such a pleasure to channel her look in the show. Not only did I feel the resemblance, but my co-stars noticed it too.”
She added, “In fact, some even called me ‘choti Rani Mukherjee’ while we were shooting, which made me so happy! Sun Neo’s Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya is my debut show, and receiving such a compliment was incredible. It literally gave me butterflies. Although I’m still young, I hope that someday I can achieve at least 70% of what Rani ma’am has in her career—that’s my goal. And if I ever get the chance to share the screen with her, it would be a dream come true.”
Talking about how she managed the look, Brinda said, “Honestly, it wasn’t too difficult, but it was definitely new and exciting. It was my first time wearing a beard and moustache, and I really felt like a man, haha! I even tried wrapping the turban myself, which took a few attempts, but I eventually got it right. The whole experience was so unique, and it’s something I’ll always cherish.”
Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya, airing on Sun Neo at 7 PM from Monday to Saturday, stars Devoleena Bhattacharjee, Sara Khan, Jaya Bhattacharya, Brinda Dahal, and Ashish Dixit in pivotal roles. The show follows the journey of Vaishnavi (played by Brinda Dahal), an orphan who considers Chhathi Maiyya (portrayed by Devoleena Bhattacharjee) as a mother figure, finding solace and strength in her unwavering faith.
