IIT Roorkee Hosts 10th Cohort of Nurturing Future Leadership Program to Strengthen Academic Leadership in Higher Education

Roorkee, July 15: The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee successfully hosted the 10th Cohort of the Nurturing Future Leadership Program under the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme , an initiative of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, from 8–12 July 2026. The five-day residential programme aimed to enhance leadership competencies among faculty members and academic administrators while promoting innovation, institutional excellence, and effective governance in higher education institutions. The programme brought together 30 participants from around 20 universities and higher education institutions across India, providing a platform for collaborative learning and the exchange of best practices in academic leadership.

A comprehensive curriculum comprising 20 thematic sessions covered key areas such as transformational leadership, institutional governance, NEP 2020, Viksit Bharat 2047, innovation and design thinking, universal human values, organisational behaviour, motivation, team building, and gender sensitisation. The sessions were delivered by eminent academicians, administrators, industry experts, and senior public officials, including Prof. K. K. Pant, Prof. Praveen Kumar, Prof. Naveen K. Navani, Prof. Meenakshi Rawat, Dr. Tuheena Mukherjee, Dr. Arun Bhardwaj, Dr. Hitashi Lomash, Prof. H. C. Pokhriyal, Prof. Sonal Atreya, Prof. R. Pradeep Kumar, Air Commodore Ajay Kumar Chaudhary, and Shri Senthil Avoodai Krishna Raj, IPS.

As part of the experiential learning component, participants visited Lekhak Gaon, Dehradun, where they interacted with Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and Ms. Vidushi Pokhriyal. The interaction highlighted the role of literature, cultural heritage, ethical leadership, and value-based education in shaping future academic leaders.

The programme incorporated interactive pedagogies, including group activities, design-thinking workshops, Transactional Analysis sessions, reflective discussions, and participant presentations, fostering collaboration, critical thinking, and cross-institutional learning. Participants appreciated the programme’s practical orientation and the opportunity to engage with peers and experts from diverse academic backgrounds.

The programme concluded with participant reflections and a valedictory session, reaffirming IIT Roorkee’s commitment to leadership development, institutional excellence, and capacity building. Through initiatives such as NFLP, the Institute continues to nurture visionary academic leaders aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. The programme further strengthened a nationwide network of academic leaders committed to driving institutional transformation, promoting innovation, and advancing quality in higher education.
