Pankaj Roy Academy inaugurated in Berhampore

Jan 15: On Monday, the Pankaj Roy Cricket Academy of LMET International School was inaugurated in Berhampore by former Indian cricketer Pranab Roy, son of the late Pankaj Roy. The inauguration ceremony, held on Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary, saw Pranab Roy emphasise that this academy would be different from others.

“This academy will not be like any other. I will personally look after the functioning of this academy that bears my father’s name. I will definitely visit Berhampore at least once every month. I could not establish an academy in my father’s name earlier. One had come up in Kolkata, but it has been shut for a long time. However, I will remain closely associated with this school in Berhampore,” said Pranab Roy.

School chairman Prakash Ghosh said, “Our aim is to see at least one boy or girl from this school go on to represent the Bengal cricket team. We will do whatever is necessary to make that happen.”

Advent Education founder Abhishek De Sarkar, however, has even bigger dreams. “The students of this school play cricket regularly and participate in national-level tournaments. The pathway is already there. We need to build on it,” he said.
