Ahmedabad, 10 October: In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, HCG Aastha Cancer Centre in Ahmedabad hosted the “Walk for Hope | Run for a Cure” walkathon, honoring breast cancer survivors and advocating for awareness around early detection and prevention. The event featured a 10 km run, along with 5 km and 3 km walks, attracting approximately 600 participants, including survivors, healthcare professionals, caregivers, and members of the public. This remarkable turnout highlighted the community’s collective commitment toward raising awareness and fostering support for breast cancer initiatives.
The event commenced at the hospital premises, starting the 10Km run. We had runners from the Shantigram Running Group and their families participating and supporting the cause. Following the run, the 5KM and the 3KM walkathon was flagged off. Many Breast cancer Warriors and their families took part in this. The Walkers and Runners held up placards promoting breast cancer awareness, reinforcing the critical message of “Beat It” for cancer through early detection and screening.
The event continued with a series of expert talks, health check-ups, and inspiring survivor stories, creating a platform for attendees to learn about early detection methods, the significance of regular screenings, and self-examinations. Participants also gained valuable insights into the advanced treatment options available in today’s healthcare landscape. Interactions with survivors and medical professionals enriched the experience, offering both knowledge and inspiration to all involved.
Dr. DG Vijay, Director & Breast Surgical Oncologist, HCG Aastha Cancer Centre, Ahmedabad, remarked, “Raising awareness for early breast cancer screening is not just important; it is essential. The Walk for Hope | Run for a Cure walkathon provided a crucial platform to educate women and the wider community about the significance of early detection. Dr. Kinjal Jani, Consultant Radiation Oncologist, HCG Aastha Cancer Centre, Ahmedabad, added, “Education and awareness are some of the most powerful tools in our fight against breast cancer. This event, with its significant turnout, helped us reach a wider audience, breaking down stigmas and misconceptions surrounding breast cancer. At HCG Aastha Cancer Centre Ahmedabad, we are committed to equipping individuals with the knowledge and resources they need in this ongoing battle.”
Gautham CB, Chief Operating Officer, HCG Aastha Cancer Centre, Ahmedabad, emphasized, “We are thrilled by the overwhelming response from participants. This walkathon was not just an event but a movement to unite the local community, healthcare providers, and businesses in a shared mission to raise breast cancer awareness. By building a strong network of support and empowerment, we are ensuring that everyone affected by this disease feels heard and supported. Our outreach specifically focuses on engaging communities most impacted by breast cancer, providing them with the essential resources and information that can truly make a difference.”
This initiative not only aimed to promote breast cancer awareness but also encouraged early detection while providing vital support to those affected by the disease. Our collaborations with the Association of Breast Surgeons of India, the Shantigram Running Group, and Medirest by Compass Group played a key role in amplifying awareness and inspiring meaningful action within the community. By addressing common myths and realities surrounding breast cancer, the walkathon sought to foster a compassionate and supportive environment where everyone can thrive together.
