Hyderabad, September 26, 2025: The Hyderabad Management Association (HMA) hosted a highly impactful lecture by Padma Shri awardee Dr. Prahlada Rama Rao, fondly known as the “Akash Missile Man of India,” at the K.L.N. Prasad Auditorium, FTCCI Building, Hyderabad. The event, centered on the theme “Strong Defence and Atmanirbharta – Twin Pillars for Vikasit Bharat,” attracted an enthusiastic audience of professionals, entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and students.
Drawing from over four decades of pioneering work at DRDO, Dr. Prahlada Rama Rao shared deep insights into India’s indigenous defence innovations and their role in building a Surakshit and Vikasit Bharat. He explained how homegrown systems like Akash and other missiles are not just technological achievements but strategic assets that reflect India’s sovereignty and self-reliance.
Dr. Prahlada Rama Rao appreciated the initiatives of Hyderabad Management Association, emphasizing that youngsters should not only aspire to be job seekers but also evolve as job generators and innovators, driving India’s growth story.
Speaking about the Akash Missile System, Dr. Prahlada Rama Rao said: “India’s strength in defence lies in its ability to innovate and achieve Atmanirbharta through indigenous technologies. The Akash Missile System is not merely a missile; it is a symbol of India’s scientific capability, industrial collaboration, and national resolve. From concept to induction, it brought together DRDO, public and private industries, academia, and the armed forces into a seamless ecosystem. Its success has strengthened our nation’s security, created wealth and employment, saved vital foreign exchange, and elevated India’s standing globally. ”
He further emphasized that defence manufacturing goes beyond industry—it is about national pride, resilience, and the ability to stand tall in an uncertain world.
