KL Deemed to be University Hosts National Conference on Epigenetics in Cancer Research

Andhra Pradesh, 30th August 2024: The Department of Biotechnology at KL Deemed to be University successfully conducted a two-day National Conference on “Epigenetics in Cancer Diagnosis and Therapy” recently. The event, sponsored by the Advanced Network Research Excellence Foundation (ANREF) of the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Government of India, was held at the Vaddeswaram campus.

The conference aims to investigate the rising significance of epigenetic mechanisms in cancer detection and treatment, offering an opportunity for prominent experts, researchers, and students to exchange ideas and discuss the most recent advances in this crucial field. The highlights included incisive presentations, engaging discussions, and poster sessions that focused on the intersection of epigenetics and oncology, paving the way for precision medicine in cancer therapy.

The key sessions covered the topics around cancer diagnostics and prognosis, cancer epigenetics, drug discovery, and the mechanisms underlying cancer growth. The event also included an exciting poster presentation competition, in which competitors exhibited their research discoveries. The top three posters received monetary prizes, acknowledging the researchers’ unique techniques.

The conference began with an inaugural address by Dr. K.S. Jagannatha Rao, Pro Chancellor followed by keynotes from notable speakers such as Dr. G.P. Saradhi Varma, Vice Chancellor and Dr. N. Butchi Naidu, Director of KL School of Life Sciences. They highlighted epigenetics’ revolutionary potential in cancer care and its importance in producing tailored therapeutics. The conference offered participants a unique opportunity to network, interact, and learn from industry experts, promoting an environment of academic excellence and innovation.

Under the supervision of Dr. V. Praveen Kumar, Head of the Department of Biotechnology, convenor of the event Dr. M. Janaki Ramaiah, senior officials, faculty, and staff ensured the smooth conduct of the conference. The University regularly organizes such conferences to bridge the gap between research and clinical practice, ultimately contributing to the advancement of cancer detection and treatment.
