Women Break Barriers in Hardware Engineering with 26% Surge: WorkIndia

13th May 2025: Breaking traditional barriers in the tech workforce, new data from WorkIndia, India’s largest tech-enabled recruitment platform for blue and grey-collar talent, reveals a 26% rise in hardware engineering job applications from women, outpacing the 19% growth seen in male applications. The report marks a significant shift in the gender dynamics of one of tech’s most specialized and male-dominated domains.

While hardware engineering has long been seen as a male preserve, the recent uptick in female participation, both in job supply and demand, signals a crucial turning point for gender diversity in core engineering roles. According to the platform’s latest data, overall tech job postings rose by 11%, but hardware engineering saw the most aggressive expansion, with a 26% surge in listings.

The rise in female engagement is complemented by broader trends such as a 2257% spike in part-time applications, driven by a staggering 7552% increase from women, and expanding tech participation across Tier-3 cities. Notably, hardware engineering roles are thriving in Tier-1 markets with a 30% job supply increase, reinforcing the idea that tech innovation is now inseparable from gender inclusion.

Mr. Nilesh Dungarwal, CEO & Co-founder, WorkIndia, Said, “This growth isn’t just statistical, it’s symbolic. The 26% growth in female participation in hardware engineering roles isn’t just a number, it’s a testament to the changing landscape of India’s tech industry. As women break into core tech fields once dominated by men, we’re seeing a shift that will define the future of engineering. This is a pivotal moment for diversity and innovation.”

WorkIndia’s findings paint a powerful picture of how core tech is evolving not just in scale, but in spirit. The surge in female participation is more than a workforce statistic; it’s a signal of India’s
The next tech frontier is being inclusive, skilled, and ready for the future.
