Kozhikode, Sep 21: Calicut FC defender Rijohn Jose, 29, from Ollur, Thrissur, passed away following a road accident near Gandhi Road Flyover in Kozhikode last night. Rijohn sustained serious chest injuries in the accident and was declared dead at Aster MIMS Hospital. Gani Ahammed Nigam, from Kozhikode, who was with Rijohn at the time of the accident, sustained no serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.
Rijohn was an important part of Calicut FC’s 2024 Super League Kerala title-winning campaign and had also represented the club in the Kerala Premier League. He had experience playing in the Calcutta Football League and Karnataka Super Division League and had represented Sreebhumi FC, George Telegraph SC, FC Deccan and Forca Kochi FC.
Known for his strength and commitment as a defender, Rijohn made a valuable contribution to the teams he represented and will be remembered by his teammates and the football community.
Following the post-mortem, Rijohn’s body will be kept at the Kozhikode Corporation Stadium for public homage before being taken to his native place, Ollur, in Thrissur. The last rites will be held tomorrow at 11 AM at his residence. Rijhon’s family includes his father, Jose MP; mother, Treesa Jose; and brother, Tijo MJ.
