Lausanne, Aug 4: Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra is set to return to Diamond League action as he competes at the Lausanne Diamond League (Athletissima) on August 21, following his silver medal performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026.
Chopra will face a world-class field in Lausanne, including some of the biggest names in javelin throw. The competition is expected to feature Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, reigning world champion Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago, Commonwealth Games champion Rumesh Pathirage of Sri Lanka, along with leading throwers such as Anderson Peters of Grenada and Thomas Rohler of Germany.
The Indian athlete entered the Lausanne event on the back of an impressive Commonwealth Games performance, where he registered a season-best throw of 85.83 metres to secure the silver medal.
The Lausanne field will also include Olympic medallists and global contenders such as Jakub Vadlejch, Julian Weber and Curtis Thompson, making it one of the most competitive javelin events of the season.
Sri Lanka’s Pathirage will be one of Chopra’s toughest challengers after a remarkable run this year. He won the Commonwealth Games title with a throw of 89.75 metres and remains the only athlete to cross the 90-metre mark this season with his 92.67-metre effort at the Rome Diamond League.
Chopra, who recently returned to competition after an injury setback, has shown steady improvement and is building momentum ahead of upcoming international events.
The Lausanne Diamond League will provide another major opportunity for Chopra to test himself against the world’s best and continue his pursuit of top honours on the global athletics stage.
