Amity Institute of Environmental Sciences Amity University Uttar Pradesh (AUUP), Noida Campus, organized a seminar to commemorate World Environment Day, bringing together environmental experts, academicians, and industry leaders to discuss sustainable development and environmental conservation.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Praveen Nayak, CEO, Garbage Clinic & Infratech (P) Limited, stated,
“Garbage Clinic & Infratech Pvt. Ltd. (GCIPL) is a Solid Waste Management company committed to delivering end-to-end waste management solutions for Urban Local Bodies, Corporates, Institutions, and Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs). The company aims to build cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable cities through scientific waste processing systems, innovative waste-to-resource solutions, awareness programmes, and micro-entrepreneurship models. The approach combines environmental stewardship with community engagement, focusing on awareness and training programmes, customized waste management infrastructure, machine operation and technical training, as well as capacity building and skill development. Mr. Nayak advocated that through effective waste management, supported by technology, education, and citizen participation, we can achieve environmental sustainability and fostering a circular economy.”
Drawing attention to the shrinking availability of green spaces, Ms. Prakriti Srivastava, IFS (Retd.), observed,
“The rapid pace of urbanization and infrastructure development has significantly reduced the availability of open spaces such as parks, forests, and green belts. While development is essential, it must be balanced with environmental conservation to ensure long-term ecological sustainability. The shrinking green cover has impacted biodiversity, air quality, and overall environmental health. There is an urgent need to integrate nature into urban planning and encourage initiatives such as eco-tourism, afforestation, and community-led conservation programmes that generate awareness about the importance of preserving our natural resources.”
Speaking about “Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment)”, Prof. D. K. Bandyopadhyay, Mentor, Amity Institute of Environmental Sciences, said,
“Mission LiFE is an India-led global movement that encourages people to adopt environmentally responsible habits in everyday life. LiFE places individuals at the centre of sustainability efforts. The key objectives include reducing waste and promoting recycling, saving water and energy, minimizing single-use plastics, and encouraging sustainable food choices. Examples of LiFE actions include switching off lights and appliances when not in use, using public transport, cycling or walking, carrying reusable bags and bottles, conserving water at home and workplaces, segregating waste, and supporting recycling initiatives.”
Highlighting individual responsibility towards nature, Dr. S. P. Singh, Domain Head, Natural Resources & Environmental Science, AUUP, remarked,
“Environmental sustainability begins with individual action and responsible lifestyle choices. Every citizen has a crucial role to play in protecting natural resources and reducing the ecological footprint. Simple measures such as maintaining air-conditioner temperatures at 25–26 degrees Celsius, conserving energy and water, planting indigenous species of trees, shrubs and herbs, and adopting eco-friendly practices in daily life can collectively make a significant difference.”
Emphasizing the significance of the occasion, Dr. Renu Dhupper, Assistant Director, AIES, said,
“World Environment Day serves as a powerful reminder that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility and not the sole responsibility of governments or institutions. Such occasions provide an opportunity to reflect on our environmental footprint and renew our commitment towards creating a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future for generations to come.”
The Seminar also featured expert talks by Mr. Sushant Girdhar, Director, Aplinka Solutions and Technologies Pvt. Ltd.; Dr. Sandeep K. Shukla, Research Officer, Central Water Commission; and Dr. Sushant Kumar, Scientist, National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting. As part of the celebrations, participants took a Pledge for Sustainable Lifestyle and Environmental Protection and joined a ceremonial tree plantation drive under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, reaffirming their commitment towards environmental stewardship and sustainable living.
