Stop Sharing Your Soap with Your Kids: The Science Behind Why Their Skin Needs Its Own Care

One common skincare mistake that many parents overlook is sharing their soap or face wash with kids. Prasanna Vasanadu, Parent Educator and Founder of Tikitoro, says, If it’s working and suitable for your skin it doesn’t mean it works for your kids skin as well. Here are some reasons why your kid’s sensitive skin might be suffering more from your soap and what you should use in its place.

What Happens When You Use Adult Soap on Kids

  • Kid’s outer layer of skin is 20–30% thinner than an adult’s, harsh substances and chemicals can enter more readily.
  • Dry, itchy, and flaky skin is caused by harsh soap, it can remove essential oils.
  • Kids can experience redness, burning sensations, or rashes as a result of the fragrances with allergens, and preservatives found in adult soaps.
  • Using the wrong products can cause conditions like eczema and dermatitis.

Why Their Skin Needs Its Own Skincare

Mild & Gentle Cleaning:

Soaps and face washes which are especially designed for kids are kind to sensitive skin. They are perfect for kids who are prone to dryness or eczema because they don’t contain harsh chemicals or allergens. These soaps effectively remove grime and pollutants without depleting essential oils.

Nourishing Ingredients:

Natural oils like shea butter, coconut oil, and almond oil are frequently used to make kids products. These components, which are abundant in vitamins, antioxidants, and fatty acids, nourish and moisturise the skin, maintaining its suppleness and softness.

Chemical-Free Formulation:

Traditional adult soaps frequently include artificial perfumes, colouring agents, and preservatives that can irritate skin and trigger allergic reactions. On the other hand kids skincare products don’t include any harsh chemicals and are completely safe for their sensitive growing skin
