Kolkata, 06th September, 2025: Zee Bangla, the leading channel in Bengali entertainment, is set to launch its latest fiction Jowar Bhata offering a story that blends the fragility of sisterhood, the fire of revenge and the ache of forbidden love. Set against the backdrop of rural Bengal, this new series from Boyhood Productions promises to capture the audiences with its gripping narrative and layered emotions.
The show stars Aratrika Maity as Uji, delivering a natural and understated performance and Shruti Das as Nisha, portraying a bold, charismatic, and unpredictable character. Set in the fading village of Benagram, the story follows two sisters raised by their widowed father, Hariprasad. Uji is gentle, disciplined, and ambitious, dreaming of studying her way out of poverty, while Nisha is fiery and impatient, drawn into online scams to escape their stagnant life. Despite their differences, they share a fierce, complicated bond. Their world shatters when a land deal with the powerful Banerjee family collapses, leading to Hariprasad’s sudden death. Nisha, consumed by revenge, manipulates Uji into impersonating a wealthy NRI to infiltrate the Banerjee household. As Uji wins their trust and the heart of Sidharth Banerjee, she is torn between loyalty to her sister and her own desires. What begins as a con slowly entangles her in emotions she cannot control, raising the question: will she betray her sister or the man who loves her?
